Recollections of Richard Good

My name is Richard Good. I live in Chesapeake Virginia. I grew up in Longfield and lived at 5 Hartley Rd(2 houses down from Pond Cottage). My parents house was new when they moved in in 1956. They immigrated to South Africa in 1967 and I then moved to Canada and on to the USA in 1984. I remember we used to find path edge pavers which my mother said came from The Court Lodge. My early memories of it were from the late 50's. I think Dr. Reed (sp?) lived there till it was torn down. I used to play there and remember befriending some of the workers whilst construction of the maisonettes. My grandfather bought one of the maisonettes built on the sight.

I sang in the choir at St Mary Magdalene. We were paid 3 pennies per service. I remember there was a rumor that a tunnel existed between the church and The Court Lodge. Of course I have no idea if it was true. If memory serves, I remember playing in the front yard of The Court Lodge in the snow. It would have to have been the winter of 1961 due to the cold I believe. I think the house was empty at that time and was pulled down in 1962 0r 1963.
